Glass makes up a large part of the window and affects comfort as much as the frame. The right composition depends on the setting, orientation and main project objective.
There is no single glass solution for every space
Before choosing, define which problem you want to solve: reduce heat loss, limit noise, improve safety, control solar gain or combine several objectives.
The best solution is chosen together with the frame, hardware and installation. High-performance glass alone cannot compensate for poor sealing or an inadequate installation.
Factors worth reviewing
- Facade orientation and hours of sun exposure.
- Level and type of outside noise: traffic, voices, commercial activity or other sources.
- Opening dimensions and type.
- Need for safety against impacts or falls.
- Use of the room and level of comfort desired.
Thermal insulation and solar control
Glass cavities and treatments can help reduce heat transfer. On facades with strong sun exposure, solar-control solutions may also be worth considering while taking natural light and orientation into account.
Acoustic insulation
Reducing noise is not simply a matter of increasing glass thickness. Composition, asymmetry between panes, seals, shutter boxes and overall sealing are key.
Security and everyday use
For balustrades, glazed doors, passage areas or large openings, safety glass suitable for the use should be considered. The choice should be based on the project’s real dimensions and conditions.
